Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Treatment (Root Canal Therapy) is a dental procedure aimed at removing infected or inflamed tissue from the tooth pulp and root canal. It involves cleaning the root canals to eliminate bacteria and then sealing the canals. Afterward, the tooth is restored to make it strong and aesthetically pleasing, allowing it to function normally.
Reasons for needing a root canal treatment
1. Deep tooth decay reaching the pulp:
- Bacteria can enter the tooth pulp and cause an infection.
2. Cracked or fractured teeth:
- Damage that reaches the pulp allows bacteria to enter the inner system of the tooth.
3. Worn-down teeth exposing the pulp:
- This occurs from excessive use of the tooth or improper chewing.
4. Accidents or trauma:
- Damage to the tooth and pulp can occur due to an impact or forceful trauma.
How is Root Canal Treatment Performed?
1. Prepare the Tooth for Treatment:
- Apply anesthesia to prevent pain.
- Place a rubber dam to protect the tooth from contamination by saliva.
2. Remove Infected Tissue:
- Use a dental drill to access the pulp chamber.
- Use small instruments to remove the infected tissue from the root canals.
3. Clean the Root Canals:
- Rinse with a disinfectant solution to eliminate bacteria.
4. Apply Antiseptic:
- Place an antiseptic medication in the root canals and seal it temporarily.
5. Seal the Root Canals:
- Once the tooth shows no further signs of infection, fill the root canals to prevent reinfection.
6. Restore the Tooth:
- Fill the tooth or place a crown to restore its strength and appearance.
